Walden Cares

A Camp that Gives

To be a “camp that gives” means being a camp that cares about more than just ourselves, which is a lesson that we work diligently to impress upon our campers and our staff each day. To pause in the moment of our fun and excitement to celebrate the powerful experiences that are being created through summer camp helps us to be better people and to build a stronger community. We feel truly honored to partner with Project Morry, and to have the opportunity to support them in a variety of ways. Project Morry is a nationally recognized, youth development organization that empowers youth from at-risk, economically challenged communities to envision a positive future for themselves and the world. During the summer, Walden campers participate in our Project Morry Swim-A-Thon, which allows parents to pledge a donation for each lap their child swims. Our Teens visit Project Morry and we have the opportunity to host their teens during the summer. They partner with our older campers in activities while experiencing the warmth of Walden firsthand. A summer at camp is certainly an incredible gift for each and every camper. We provide over 30 camp scholarships to students from the Excellence Boys and Girls Charter School, and Focus for a Future, just to name a few. These scholarships ensure that children from all backgrounds and circumstances have the opportunity to benefit from the camp experience. As we work to positively change the lives of our campers, we realize that the work we are doing and the community we are creating is much bigger than ourselves. Camp Walden is a place that accepts the challenge to do more and be more, and that’s what makes us a camp that gives.
